IYO SKY Says Former WWE Star Always Beats Her At Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Women’s Tag Team Champion IYO SKY has commented on training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a former WWE star.

Speaking on Ring The Belle, IYO SKY discussed her experience practicing combat sports.

SKY noted that she is learning from Shayna Baszler, and stated that, while she hasn’t picked up a win over her mentor, she doesn’t go down without a fight.

IYO SKY said:

“Yeah, she always beats me up with jiu-jitsu. She’s so strong, she’s my teacher, so that’s why.

“I’ve never beaten her, but I always struggle, like ‘I don’t want to lose to you, Shayna!’

“I’m enjoying jiu-jitsu, and I’m also doing kickboxing.”

IYO SKY notably earned her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt this past December. She trains under Shayna Baszler at RUDOS BJJ.

Shayna Baszler has a lot of combat sports experience, with the MMA “Horsewoman” recently addressing the possibility of an MMA return.

While Shayna Baszler departed WWE in July 2025, she has maintained a good relationship with the company, and will be guest-coaching when the opportunity comes.

She recently pitched herself as the replacement NXT General Manager following Ava announcing her own WWE departure.
