Report: Japanese Wrestling Star Konosuke Takeshita Joining AEW ‘Full-Time’

Report: Japanese Wrestling Star Konosuke Takeshita Joining AEW ‘Full-Time’ AEW

A top Japanese star is reportedly joining AEW full-time.

On March 20, AEW and DDT Pro Wrestling announced a new agreement to bring some of the Japanese promotion’s stars to the US.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Konosuke Takeshita is currently in the US, and will work for AEW for ‘months and months’.

Takeshita is a huge star in DDT Pro-Wrestling, and has won numerous titles since his debut for the promotion in 2012, notably becoming the youngest KO-D Openweight Champion in history in 2016, at the age of 21.

Explaining how Takeshita’s agreement with AEW will work, Meltzer said:

“Takeshita’s in. Konosuke Takeshita, he’s pretty much the top star in DDT, been KO-D Champion many, many times, and I think he’s still in his mid 20s. He’s in AEW as a full-time regular.

“Unlike these New Japan guys that come for a show, or maybe two or three shows or whatever, for a couple of weeks, like Suzuki right now.

“He’s (Takeshita’s) in the United States, and he’s gonna be working for AEW for the next… I don’t know how long, but months and months. I don’t know if it’s gonna be a year or what, but he’s gonna be in the United States. He will go back to DDT for some big shows, kinda like Michael Nakazawa does, like Omega would have been doing had he been healthy.”

Takeshita wrestled during AEW’s ‘House Always Wins’ house show in April 2021, teaming with Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Michael Nakazawa to face off against Pac, Penta El 0 M, Rey Fenix, Matt Sydal & Mike Sydal.

The Japanese star also appeared on two episodes of AEW Dark: Elevation around this time.

It is currently unknown when he will make an onscreen AEW return.
