Jeff Cobb Breaks Silence After NJPW Departure Announcement

Jeff Cobb Breaks Silence After NJPW Departure Announcement AEW

Jeff Cobb has broken his silence following the official announcement of his departure from NJPW, amid speculation about a WWE move.

NJPW has announced that Jeff Cobb will be leaving the company at his own request. Cobb’s IWGP Tag Team Championship has been vacated ahead of his final appearance for the company on April 19.

Cobb has now broken his silence, taking to Twitter to “clear up any rumors and innuendos.”

Cobb started by sincerely addressing the reaction to his NJPW exit, writing:

“Wow! Overwhelmed by the messages and support, and hate 😊, it’s very much appreciated!”

He went on to address the rumor we’re all talking about, continuing:

“So I just wanted to clear up any rumors and innuendos. Yes, it is in fact 100% true that the Monster Matanza Cueto, from Lucha Underground fame, was in FACT watching my matches from his cell and stealing them to use on the El Rey Network.

“But don’t worry, I have contacted a wonderful lawyer in @StephenPNew to rectify the situation! Thank you for the support in these trying times!”

This exit has fuelled rumors that Cobb is WWE-bound, following Fightful reporting on March 13 that Jeff Cobb – who was referred to in the report as a free agent – is a star WWE had their eye on.

A later report from Dave Meltzer indicated that there have been contract talks between Cobb and WWE, with no confirmation of a deal.

In addition to Cobb’s exit, BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito’s departures from NJPW have also been announced.

An update has emerged on the possibility of Naito joining WWE or AEW, which you can read more about right here.
