Jeff Hardy somewhat surprisingly put his career on the line on last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw during an impromptu match with Cedric Alexander, and we seemingly now know why.
Ringside News, who have had many recent reports confirmed by the likes of Dave Meltzer and Fightful, is reporting that Vince McMahon no longer wants “cold matches” on his shows.
This means that Vince McMahon wants all WWE matches to have stakes, with the report noting that Vince McMahon doesn’t just want to have matches “for the sake of having a match”, which is why Jeff Hardy added that stipulation.
To Vince McMahon’s credit, WWE has often been criticised for having many meaningless matches without stakes, so this could be a welcomed addition to make Monday Night Raw feel more important.
Vince McMahon has had many edicts in recent years, including not wanting wrestling during the commercial breaks, but the majority of these have lasted no more than a few weeks. It’ll be interesting to see how long this new one lasts.
