Jeff Hardy Opens Up On ‘Personal Problems’ Ruining AEW Run AEW

Jeff Hardy has opened up on his ‘personal problems’ that he believes ruined he and brother Matt’s run in AEW.

Matt Hardy’s contract with WWE expired back in 2020, with him joining AEW shortly after being written off TV in an attack by Randy Orton.

Jeff remained in WWE for an additional 18 months after Matt’s departure, before he was released in late 2021 following an incident at a WWE live event.

Jeff joined up with Matt in AEW in March 2022, though their run ended up being rather short lived, as Jeff was once again arrested in June 2022.

Jeff left AEW in June last year when it was announced that his contract had expired, with he and Matt since returning to TNA, as well as making appearances on WWE NXT back in March.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Jeff opened up on the pair’s time in AEW, noting that his personal problems ended up ruining his run in the promotion.

He said:

Jeff: “I had my personally problems naturally, and getting in trouble with the law. I think I never got a fair chance to redeem myself, at least that’s how I felt. Then I totally understood why they didn’t want to give me that chance, they can’t trust me, I’m just a liability, I was telling myself all these terrible things about getting what I got and getting arrested again. There’s so much guilt and shame involved in that, so naturally I beat myself up about it, but I just don’t think we had a fair chance because of that, so I blame myself all the time.”

When Helwani asked Matt if he believed Jeff’s issues were the only reason behind the Hardys’ run in AEW ending, Matt noted that he does think Jeff’s issue factor into things, but also noted that he and Jeff don’t fit Tony Khan’s preferred style of wrestling.

He said:

Matt: “That probably factors into things I think, I know he was back and he did pretty good to prove himself. I figured there’d be a little bit of a testing period with him. But with myself, and Jeff, and Adam (Copeland) and Jay (Christian Cage) there, altogether, I figured they’ve at least got to have us in the ring, even if we’re doing something together it’d be a hell of a segment, there’s just so much value in the four of us together because of our history, but it didn’t happen.

“Tony Khan is a great guy, he paid me very well, I like him and got along with him, but he has his style and choice of wrestling that he likes to see, and I don’t know if all of us factored into that at this point.”
