Ain’t he great? Well if you’re a long-time fan of professional wrestling, remember the Tennessee Swing, the Roadie, the colorful all-in-one attire, and hat with light-up ‘JJ’ on the front, then yes he is. Jeff Jarrett is one of the all-time wrestling greats and now he’s staritng to speak out on his career and opinion of the business today.
The WWE Hall of Famer was a guest on the Lock Up podcast recently, and amongst the many things mentioned – he has a lot to say – was the death of WCW. The company’s demise was an event that played an important part in Jarrett’s career after he was fired live on-air by Vince McMahon himself.
After stating that “You can never have a number one, unless there is a number two”, ‘Double J’ was asked whether he thought WWE would ever revive WCW as a brand. Let’s not forget, there was once a plan to re-package the red brand as WCW Monday Night Raw. I think we owe Booker T and Buff Bagwell a huge drink for that not going ahead:
“I don’t believe so. I think you’ll see bits and pieces of what [we saw]. I think that the WarGames, the things that, you know, Starrcade last year, but I think they’ll take bits and pieces of that nostalgia and monetize it.
But as an overall brand, I think NXT speaks for itself how a smashing success that is that if they’re going to invest in a new brand, it’s gonna be new. And that makes a lot of sense.”
After being inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame this year, Jarrett returned to the ring for Mexican promotion AAA with many wondering when and indeed if he will step back into a WWE ring. Jeff’s response was a sumptuous tease of, “dot, dot, dot.”
What are your thoughts on WCW being a brand in modern day WWE? Which wrestlers would you like to see swap should it happen? Would you like to see ‘Double J’ back inside a WWE ring? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter or Discord and as always, Support WrestleTalk!
