Jerry Lawler Compares Hollywood Actor To Andy Kaufman WWE

Jerry “The King: Lawler has compared a Hollywood actor to his famed rival Andy Kaufman.

Jerry Lawler is an all-time great that has left many memorable moments and matches throughout his career, but probably no feud was more memorable than his rivalry with comedian Andy Kaufman.

During an interview with Busted Open Radio, Lawler discussed the feud and revealed what people in Hollywood felt about Kaufman’s move to wrestling.

He said:

“A lot of people in Hollywood thought it was career suicide.

“Andy didn’t care about Hollywood, Andy really loved wrestling. He actually told me …’Man, I love this.’ He said, ‘I would give up everything I’m doing in Hollywood, all the TV shows, Taxi, the comedy clubs all that if I could just stay involved in wrestling, I love it.'”

The WWE Hall of Famer continued on to note how he felt actor and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. is “sort of like that as well”, comparing him to Andy Kaufman.

Lawler said:

“Here’s a big Hollywood actor that just all of a sudden walked away from all of that and came and started working as a writing staff there in WWE … that’s just the way Andy felt about it. He loved it, loved the business, was so respectful of everybody and everything about the business. Andy didn’t come up with any ideas at all during that thing, he just sat back. He told me, ‘I’m in your world, and I’m just going to try to do what you suggest we do,’ and that’s the way it all went, he just loved the business.”

As previously reported, Lawler’s former rival Bret Hart mentioned him as the greatest villain in wrestling ever.

Jerry Lawler appeared on the first two editions of “Tales From The Territories” on VICE TV, which covered the Memphis Wrestling territory and the Lawler vs. Kaufman feud.
