Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura has addressed his WWE return ahead of his role on commentary at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
For the first time since 2008, Saturday Night’s Main Event is set to air live on NBC from the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY.
The show is set to feature five matches in total, four of which contested for WWE Championship gold and is aiming to recapture the “old school” feel of Saturday Night Main Event’s origins in the 1980s.
One of the ways WWE are doing this is through the returns of legends, with Jimmy Hart, Tito Santana and several others set to appear.
A returning name advertised well ahead of time for the show was Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura, with the former Governor of Minnesota returning to the commentary booth for the first time in over a decade.
Ahead of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Ventura spoke with the New York Post and detailed what led to his WWE return, with the Hall of Famer revealing that it was his son (who is also his agent) that got in contact with WWE.
Ventura explained:
“My son was a fan of wrestling and a fan of myself growing up, so he took it upon himself to make some contact with the new ownership and they started talking.
“One thing led to another, and I realized they were under new ownership and I wasn’t going to be held to the old standard of why I got kicked out before. Lo and behold it happened.”
Ventura continued, explaining how his kids were the driving force behind the return:
“I’ll tell you this: I did it selfishly for my kids. I’m 73 now. I ain’t gonna be around forever. I want to position it where if anybody makes money off my name, I want my kids to have a piece of it.”
Discussing his signing of a WWE legend’s contract earlier this year, Ventura explained how that led to his Saturday Night’s Main Event appearance:
“With Saturday Night’s Main Event coming back after 40 years, somebody said, ‘We need Jesse for this,’ because we had already negotiated the Legends deal, it wasn’t a big deal to negotiate this. The ice had been broken and now hell has frozen over.”
