Je’Von Evans Reveals Sami Zayn Conversation Ahead Of WWE SmackDown Match WWE

Je’Von Evans has detailed what he told Sami Zayn ahead of their match on the September 26 episode of WWE SmackDown.

Since winning the United States Championship from Solo Sikoa on August 29, Sami Zayn has been all about opening up the door for younger stars to make a name for themselves and challenge him for his gold, much like John Cena did with the same title a decade prior.

On the September 26 episode of SmackDown in Orlando, Florida, WWE NXT’s “Young OG” Je’Von Evans was the one to answer the call for Zayn’s open challenge, with the veteran and rising star putting on arguably the best match of Zayn’s title run thus far.

Speaking with the Black Rasslin’ Podcast, Evans discussed the opportunity to face-off with Zayn, revealing that he actually warned the Canadian star of his intentions to answer the US Open Challenge before the match took place.

Evans said:

“So honestly before that match I did meet him (Sami Zayn) I was like ‘yo I know you got a little open challenge, you might hear my music play’, he was like ‘alright cool’.

“I just remember going out there and the energy was crazy and I low-key just saw my opportunity.

“He’s advanced in the business so I’m sure he’s got me and I’ve got him most definitely. I know he’s not gonna hurt me and I’m not gonna hurt him. So I saw the opportunity and your boy took it.”

While he was unsuccessful in dethroning Zayn, Evans followed up his US Title match by making another appearance on SmackDown the week afterwards, teaming with Rey Fenix to take on Los Garza, this time getting the win.

Despite Nick Aldis teasing a potential main roster call-up being in Je’Von’s future, the NXT star has admitted that he’s not sure he’s ready for a move to the main roster.

Zayn’s US Title open challenge was answered by the returning Shinsuke Nakamura on this past Friday’s SmackDown, however, it came to an abrupt end when Tama Tonga and Solo Sikoa’s MFTs laid out both men.
