Jim Cornette revealed on his podcast recently that in the early stages of planning for AEW, former Universal Champion and WCW icon Goldberg was someone that he really wanted to bring in to the promotion.
Interestingly, Cornette revealed that Tony Khan wanted Goldberg to come in and replicate his awesome undefeated streak from WCW from over 20-years-ago. However, those plans obviously didn’t materialise.
When rumours of AEW previously being interested in Goldberg emerged online, TNT Champion and AEW Executive Vice President Cody took to social media to deny that the promotion had made any contact with Goldberg.
However, Jim Cornette has fired back on Twitter, claiming that Tony Khan told him personally that he was interested in Goldberg, as well as the plans that he had for the former World Heavyweight Champion.
Well I guess he didn’t tell Cody, but it came directly from his lips to my ears so you can believe what you want, I don’t give a shit. Was never going to happen anyway and I knew that. “Ideas” like this one of Mr. Khan’s were why he and I had very few conversations.

To be fair, Goldberg doesn’t seem like the sort of signing AEW would make. The promotion is focused on elevating young stars with fast-paced and hard-hitting wrestling. Goldberg seems to go against AEW’s philosophy.
