Jim Ross Defends Michael Cole WWE Commentary

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has said that WWE fans are too critical of Michael Cole for making mistakes on commentary.

Jim Ross, who is the lead commentator for AEW at the moment, said that commentators are “bound to make a mistake” when they aren’t reading from a script:

“I thought that some of the audience was a little hard on Michael Cole for having a couple of mistakes. This damn job Conrad is not easy. You think about it logically, to do a two or three-hour show without a script, you’re not reading lines, you’re creating lines. Creating the content. You’re bound to make a mistake here, there, and yon.”

But because of social media, a lot of the fans just have no patience. ‘Oh he made a mistake,’ yeah, and what is your point? Are you pointing out he’s human? I made plenty of them and of course, when you make a mistake everybody calls for your head. ‘Aw they gotta get rid of JR, they gotta get rid of this guy, get rid of that guy.’ Easy Einstein, you gotta be sh*ttin’ me. […] It’s a tough time to be on television with the digital imprint that’s there because everybody knows more than they’ve ever known, the curtains been pulled back vividly. Sometimes it’s not fair quite frankly.”

This comes after fans took issue with Michael Cole mistakenly saying that Sasha Banks has kicked out of the KOD at the end of WrestleMania, with fans claiming that Cole had “ruined” what was a fantastic moment.
