Jim Ross In Negotiations With AEW

Jim Ross In Negotiations With AEW

Jim Ross gave some insight into his recent WWE departure and what his future holds on this afternoon’s Outside The Lines on ESPN.

Speaking to Bob Levy, Ross said that the McMahons have been “great” to his family and that he will be stepping away from the promotion “gracefully” when his contract expires at the end of the month.

JR compared this exit to his WWE departure in 2013, saying that back then he was fazed out by Coach (what a great decision that proved to be) whereas in 2018 he barely worked and was still taken “great care of” financially but he knew the writing was on the wall with regards to his future.

According to Ross, Vince McMahon was “not overwhelmed” by his decision to leave but was understanding of the opportunities that we available to him elsewhere. Ross also talked about wanting to “get back in the game”, which he says he told Vince that he of all people should be able to understand him wanting to do that.

Ross also offered some interesting comments on his future, specifically as pertains to rumours of him joining up with All Elite Wrestling, which has been talked about since before the promotion was even officially confirmed

“I don’t know.  We’re talking.  I just haven’t signed anything yet.  My people and their people are talking and doing their thing. They are working on it.”

Based on those comments, it seems increasingly likely that wrestling’s greatest play-by-play announcer will be turning up in AEW at some point. It is a smart hire for the promotion as it immediately gives them an air of legitimacy and a well-respected and familiar voice for a generation of fans that feel he was put out to pasture far too soon.
