Jim Ross Says Wednesday Night Wars Were A Cop Out

Veteran commentator Jim Ross has compared the rivalry between AEW and NXT to the Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW.

Until NXT moved to Tuesday nights last month, NXT and AEW would both air their weekly shows on Wednesday night. A play on the Monday Night Wars, dedicated fans would refer to the “rivalry” between the two companies as the Wednesday Night Wars.

According to Jim Ross, there was no need to call the Wednesday night showdown a war. Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross noted that the Wednesday Night Wars were nowhere near as extreme as the Monday Night Wars.

Here is the full quote:

“I’m glad that there’s no more Wednesday Night Wars. That was just a cop out for the Monday Night Wars, it wasn’t nearly that extreme in my view. If you want to believe that and it helps motivate you as a fan and add more enjoyment to your game plan then have at it.”

Ross has seen both “wars” first-hand, working with WWE throughout the Attitude Era. If anybody knows the drastic measures both sides took during the WCW rivalry, it’s Jim Ross.

Ross recently addressed rumors that AEW are planning to introduce a new title. With many fans speculating over a cruiserweight championship, Ross revealed that it is highly unlikely AEW will ever divide their roster into weight classes.
