Joe Hendry has broken his silence after losing the TNA World Championship to Trick Williams at WWE Battleground on May 24.
At WWE Battleground, Joe Hendry’s run as the face of TNA came to an end, losing his TNA World Title to WWE’s Trick Williams – who became the first ever WWE signed star to capture the prize in TNA’s 23 year history.
Joe Hendry had not addressed the loss publicly in the past two weeks, but finally re-appeared to discuss the result during last night’s episode of TNA iMPACT.
Reflecting on the defeat, Hendry said:
“Say his name and he appears. I asked for this time because I needed a little bit of time to reflect on what’s happened and where we’re gonna go from here. I lost the TNA World Championship to Trick Williams, and it’s hard for me because this last year has been a whirlwind.
“It felt like I had the world behind me and there was nothing I couldn’t achieve. I just felt we were taking TNA to new heights and I was taking these risks, risk after risk and it just all felt like it was going my way, and now the championship is in the hands of someone who doesn’t work here.
“I was supposed to be the team captain and I’m the one that dropped the ball. I let myself down. I let those fans down that believed in me. I let my peers down.
“This title is in the hands of someone who doesn’t appreciate the history of that championship. The TNA World Championship is for us, as TNA wrestlers, the richest prize in the game.
“And look I want nothing more than to have another shot at Trick Williams, to take back what’s mine. To look him in the eye and take it back for TNA, but I understand that’s not my spot right now. Elijah is next and he deserves it and I support him at Against All Odds.”
“When I talk about the history of this championship, I’m going back, I started watching TNA in 2002. Back when I was at high school, I did not feel that I was gonna amount to much. I used to rush home and watch TNA Wrestling.
“Pro wrestling inspired me to be better and that’s carried on through my adult life. The fans were behind me the world was behind me it felt like I could achieve anything and I let everyone down. I’m sorry. I guess I got carried away with it.“

Hendry was then interrupted by long-time rival and TNA Against All Odds opponent Frankie Kazarian, who berated Hendry for his loss to Williams, calling the Scotsman an “embarrassment” for dropping the title to someone not even signed to TNA.
While it remains to be seen if/when Hendry will find his way back in the hunt for the TNA World Championship, Elijah is next to step up to Trick Williams – with the two men set to face off at tonight’s TNA Against All Odds event.
