John Cena has compared the criticism for Fast X film to fans saying “isn’t wrestling fake?” in a new interview.
Cena is set to star in his latest movie when he reprises his role as Jakob Toretto, the brother of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), in “Fast X.” The former 16-time world champion made his debut in the role in F9, the ninth movie of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Speaking with Megan Ryte for Extra, Cena was asked to describe how he responds to fans who say, “we don’t need another ‘Fast’ film.” Comparing it to the criticism that wrestling gets, he said:
“Having just performed at the 39th installment of WrestleMania, my philosophy is, ‘as long as it’s good, that’s all that matters.’ ‘Fast’, continuously, and box office backs data it up, continuously entertains the world installation after installation.”
“Anyone who says, ‘Do we really need another one?’ I compare it to a fan who says, ‘Isn’t wrestling fake?’ They just don’t understand what we do and they just don’t understand what this is about.”
“As long as the movies are exceptional, which this one might be my favorite of all-time, and I go deep into the ‘Fast’ library.”
“This is a great ride and I think people are going to get out of the theater and want to see another one. If someone makes that comment, which they’re entitled to, I just don’t think they understand what we do.”
“Fast X” will hit theaters this Friday, May 19 with two more films to follow and finally end the series, according to Vin Diesel.
