Earlier today we reported John Cena would not be appearing on any WWE shows for the foreseeable future after he failed to defeat Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
Following this report, Cena tweeted a thank you to fans, seemingly confirming his departure from the company for the time being.
Words cannot describe how appreciative I am that the @WWEUniverse allowed me the opportunity to return and perform. Thank you staff, superstars, and most of all FANS for giving me an unforgettable summer at “home” with my “family”. The journey takes me away now but I’ll C U soon.

Cena has a number of TV shows and movies to film in the near future, so it is unlikely that he’ll be back any time soon, but he tends to pop in once a year, so perhaps we’ll get another run from him in 2022.
