John Cena Addresses Final WWE Match Not Taking Place In Boston WWE

John Cena has commented on the decision to have his final WWE match take place in Washington DC, instead of Boston, Massachusetts.

The 17-time WWE world champion has just one match scheduled before retirement, with his final bout set to take place at the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Washington DC’s Capital One Arena.

With many fans believing that his last match should’ve been scheduled for a show in Boston, Massachusetts – less than an hour down the road from his hometown of West Newbury – John Cena has now commented on the call to have him retire away from home.

Speaking with Bill Simmons of The Ringer, Cena noted that there’s a lot that goes into booking WWE’s live event calendar.

Pointing out the silver lining, Cena said:

That’s way beyond my control. I don’t book the live event calendar, if it was up to me, every match would be in Tampa. The mistake is, I didn’t have 36 matches in Tampa.

You never know, I don’t know if the (TD Garden) was available. That’s the thing, ‘Man, it would be perfect if…’, perfect for you, like you don’t know the routing, you don’t know the live event hurdles that they have to go through.

Then, you can get a bunch of ‘last of’s. The last SmackDown in Chicago where I started, the last time in TD, the last time in MSG, my last Raw, my last Premium Live Event or pay-per-view in San Diego, and then of course the last match.

Trust me, it was great to be able to go back there one last time.
