What Happened When John Cena Refereed LA Knight Vs. The Miz At WWE Payback 2023

What Happened When John Cena Refereed LA Knight Vs. The Miz At WWE Payback 2023 WWE

There was a special guest referee for the match between LA Knight and The Miz at tonight’s WWE Payback – John Cena.

Before the match began, John Cena came to the ring to declare that, as the special guest host, he thought he should probably also serve as an impartial guest referee on the night.

Inserting himself into the LA Knight and Miz feud, Cena was planning on being the referee for that match, although The Miz made his entrance in an attempt to dissuade Cena.

In the end, Cena did indeed serve as the special guest referee, even pulling out a referee’s jersey from his back pocket to get the match rolling.

There were several mishaps involving Cena throughout the match, but they were shared pretty equally between Miz and Knight.

In the end, Knight was able to hit the ‘Blunt Force Trauma’ on The Miz and picked up the pinfall victory with John Cena making the three count, no referee bumps in sight.

After the match, Knight celebrated in the ring while he eventually caught back up with John Cena on the stage.

Cena and Knight stood face to face at the entrance ramp, with Cena then extending his hand as “a sign of respect,” and raised LA Knight’s hand.

Being overheard saying, “Your moment, man” Cena walked away and left Knight to do his signature point and catchphrase for the crowd again before the end of the segment.

Elsewhere already on tonight’s WWE Payback, a tag team split and an NXT champion made an unannounced appearance at ringside.
