Following his pending retirement in 2025, a new report has revealed former 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena’s next film project.
At WWE Money In The Bank, John Cena made a surprise appearance to announce he will be retiring in 2025. After the show, Cena confirmed that he will be working 30-40 dates next year from January to December before closing the door on his in-ring career.
On September 17, Deadline reported that John Cena will star in “Matchbox,” a film about the iconic toy car brand.
The live-action film is under the Skydance, Apple and Mattel Films umbrella. Mattel Films were the studio behind the successful Barbie movie from 2023.
“Matchbox” will be produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger as well as Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films.
The director will be Sam Hargrave, who is best known for directing the “Extraction” movie. The movie will be based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.
Matchbox toy cars were invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell.
