WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 2 and 3, in New Jersey and plans for John Cena ahead of the show have emerged.
At the first-ever two-night SummerSlam, John Cena’s WWE Championship will likely be on the line, subject to the winner of the King of the Ring tournament final taking place at Night of Champions on June 28.
As for Cena’s plans before WWE SummerSlam, it has now been confirmed that the WWE Champion will be appearing on the go-home episode of SmackDown.
The appearance was confirmed on the Prudential Center Twitter account, noting that it will be the first time WWE SmackDown has taken place there in seven years, in a tweet reading:
“JUST ANNOUNCED: For the first time in 7 years, @WWE SmackDown returns to Newark the night before SummerSlam with nonstop action as John Cena continues “The Last Time is Now” tour along with the biggest WWE Superstars! Tickets on sale Fri., June 27 at 10am.”
The Prudential Center was home to the October 23, 2018, episode of SmackDown and last held a WWE event in July 2019, with that being Raw.
Since then, it has been a regular home for AEW, with Dynamite last taking place there in January 2024.
John Cena last competed on television at the Prudential Center in March 2015, beating Curtis Axel on WWE Raw.
Ahead of then, Cena will defend his WWE Championship against CM Punk at Night of Champions.
