John Cena Project Quietly Canceled

John Cena Project Quietly Canceled WWE

An outside project previously attached to WWE’s John Cena has been confirmed as cancelled due to cost factors.

The TBS game show series Wipeout was among the cancellations announced in a keynote session with Jason Sarlanis, President of TNT, TBS, TruTV, ID & HLM, Linear and Streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery.

The 2021 reboot of Wipeout saw John Cena, Nicole Byer and Camille Kostek as hosts and ran for two seasons.

Speaking about the cancellation of both Wipeout and The Cube, Sarlanis revealed that the cost of the shows was behind the decision, saying:

“Those are very much in the realm of what we do. Wipeout is inherently comedic and a joy to watch. But I think what we’re what we’re looking at is being realistic in terms of the entire environment. We have to recalibrate.”

In 2022, Wipeout was nominated for the Best Cable Reality Show or Competition Series at the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards, losing to VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.

It was a reboot of the 2008 series, which ran until September 2014 on ABC and was hosted by comedian and talk show host John Henson alongside former ESPN SportsCenter host John Anderson.

Cena recently participated in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, getting down to the final two before his elimination by Jey Uso.

With his next WWE PLE match being in the Men’s Elimination Chamber on March 1, details of Cena’s schedule ahead of that show have now been revealed.
