16-time World Champion John Cena is set for his first WrestleMania match in three years on WrestleMania Saturday on April 1, when he takes on United States Champion Austin Theory.
Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since burning Theory on the mic in their promo segment from the March 6 episode of Raw.
However, he has now taken to Twitter to comment on the match’s position on the WrestleMania card.
As announced on Smackdown (March 24) Cena and Theory’s clash will serve as the opener to the Mania proceedings on night one of the event.
Importantly for Cena, while he’s had plenty experience closing WrestleMania’s he’s also had experience opening the ‘show of shows’ too.
Something he pointed out in his tweet, saying:
“First match, #WrestleMania 20, @TheGarden. First match, #WrestleMania 39, @SoFiStadium. Then. NOW. Forever.”
Cena notably won the US Championship in the opening bout of WrestleMania 20, defeating the Big Show for the gold. He’s hoping to repeat history and take back the gold 19 years later.
While Cena seems pleased to be kicking off the Mania festivities, he’s not the only one who seems to like the idea.
A former WWE name has now praised the decision to have Cena open the show, which you can read more about right here.
