John Cena Responds To ‘Skepticism’ Surrounding WWE Retirement WWE

John Cena has responded to some people’s “skepticism” surrounding his WWE retirement and whether he will actually be hanging up his boots on December 13.

After a year of last-ever appearances in cities throughout the world, John Cena has one final stop on his WWE farewell tour: Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C. on December 13.

Ahead of his final WWE match, Cena appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed his impending retirement, with Cena giving confirmation that he is “100% absolutely done” as an in-ring performer after Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cena said:

“It has been a crazy year where I announced this like 15 months in advance that I’m going to retire. This has really never been done in WWE history, WWE superstars don’t necessarily ‘retire’ they kind of hang on for one more match. I am absolutely 100% done. The 13th December on Peacock is my last in-ring performance.”

Cena then replied:

“Then you will be able to show me this clip and call me a liar.”

Cena then addressed the skepticism surrounding his retirement from some fans, stating that they “won’t get the closure they want” if they think he’s going to wrestle again after December 13.

He continued:

“It’s weird because there’s a lot of skepticism out there because this has never been done before. I just hope people can come to grips with that.

“The reason I wanted to give people so much lead time is being able to perform for two decades and people allowing me into their living rooms week after week for 52 weeks a year, no re-runs, you do feel a connection with people and touring the world in this last year, it really has been beautiful.

“Meeting audience members and them sharing their stories has been great and I wanted to give those people a heads up so people could process whatever closure they wanted for the 13th. And if you’re one of those people who’s like, ‘You’re never gonna retire’, after the 13th is going to be weird because you’re not going to have the closure you want.”

Cena will face the winner of the Last Time is Now Tournament final between LA Knight and GUNTHER, which is set to take place on the Friday, December 5 episode of WWE SmackDown.
