John Cena Shares Thoughts On Alternative Promotions To WWE WWE/AEW

John Cena has shared his thoughts on alternative wrestling products to WWE, while discussing the evolution of wrestling as a whole.

The wrestling landscape today is very different to when John Cena was starting out in 1999.

One of the biggest changes has been the explosion of wrestling outside of WWE, with the likes of AEW, IMPACT, NJPW and the independent scene offering stars viable routes for stars to make money away from WWE.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cena called the modern wrestling era a ‘renaissance’, noting that he loves that performers have so many options nowadays.

Cena said:

“Now is there other companies, putting in resource and being like, ‘Well, the world’s a stage and we can go around the world and people will enjoy this as long as we put forth a good product,’ and I admire that.

“It’s kind of like the 90s, with WCW firing all cylinders and WWF firing all cylinders, and ECW. There are so many companies to work for. I wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for that gold rush.

“Now we have another renaissance of like… You can get tons of places to work in, and tons of avenues to perform in. And if you get, if WWE says, ‘We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors,’ kind of your journey is just starting.

“There are options, man, and that means people are hungry again and there’s… I love it for the performers.”

Cena also recently shared his honest opinion on a former rival, calling him the greatest of all time.
