John Cena captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career on tonight’s WWE Raw show in Boston.
Tonight’s episode of WWE Raw was Cena’s final time in his hometown of Boston ahead of his retirement match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington DC.
Cena captured his record setting 17th World Championship back at WrestleMania 41, but there has been one championship that had eluded Cena for his entire career up until tonight.
Cena’s opening promo on tonight’s Raw show was interrupted by Dominik Mysterio, who would end up antagonising Cena until Triple H announced that Dominik would defend the Intercontinental Championship against Cena right now on the show.
Cena would end up picking up the victory, ending Dominik’s reign as Intercontinental Champion that began back at WrestleMania 41, earning Cena the title for the first-ever time in his career, and completing his Grand Slam Championship.
Cena has three dates remaining on his retirement tour, including next week’s Raw in Madison Square Garden, Survivor Series in San Diego and Saturday Night’s Main Event in Boston.
