John Cena has revealed whether or not he will ever compete in a match for another promotion outside WWE, following recent wrestling defections.
In the last few months, a number of former WWE talents have shown up in AEW, most notably CM Punk, who previously hadn’t wrestled since Royal Rumble 2014, and Bryan Danielson, who main-evented WrestleMania 37 in April.
According to John Cena, we won’t be seeing the 16-time World Champion in action for another promotion. In a fan Q&A at the Florida Supercon, Cena was asked If he’d ever consider wrestling for another pro wrestling company. Speaking with certainty, Cena said:
“There’s a whole like ‘never say never’ philosophy and I’m also that way in life because you never know what life will bring you. But, I can with certainty say no.”
The former WWE Champion last wrestled at SummerSlam, unsuccessfully challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Title. Following the match, Brock Lesnar made his WWE return, confronting The Tribal Chief and Paul Heyman.
At Extreme Rules next Sunday, Reigns will face off against ‘Demon’ Finn Balor with the Universal Championship on the line.
