An update has emerged on WWE plans for John Cena’s retirement match, with his planned final opponent reportedly revealed.

Cena is over halfway through his year-long retirement run, with the current WWE Champion set to hang up his jorts for good at the end of 2025.

With John Cena recently confirming that his final match will take place in mid-December, current plans for Cena’s final ever wrestling opponent have been shared in a new report.

Per WRKD Wrestling, GUNTHER is currently planned as John Cena’s retirement match opponent.

This comes after GUNTHER defeated Goldberg at the July 12 Saturday Night’s Main Event special, in Goldberg’s final match.

GUNTHER and John Cena are both world champions in WWE right now, with Cena holding the WWE Championship and GUNTHER carrying the World Heavyweight Title.

WRKD Wrestling didn’t specify whether either title is set to be on the line in WWE’s current plans.

John Cena is set to defend his gold against King of the Ring 2025 winner Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
