A major WWE star has teased challenging for John Cena’s WWE Championship, following rumors swirling about this potential match.
With John Cena defeating Randy Orton at WWE Backlash, there has been a lot of speculation about other former rivals Cena could face during his retirement tour.
CM Punk has now hinted that he could be next, sharing an interesting message following the May 10 PLE.
Punk took to his Instagram story to share a photo watching the closing moments of the show, with the commentary caption reading “Cena is still the champ.”
Responding to this, Punk captioned this post:
For now.

Interestingly, the next WWE main roster Premium Live Event will be Money in the Bank on June 7.
Many fans previously predicted that Punk could face Cena at this event, given their history together at Money in the Bank events.
It was at the 2011 event when Punk defeated Cena for the WWE Championship and left through the crowd with the gold after a match which many called an instant classic.
Punk recently noted that he’d love to be part of John Cena’s retirement tour however he can, whether he’d be teaming with or facing off against the 17-time world champion.
Cena is guaranteed to make another big appearance ahead of Money in the Bank, with the WWE Champion confirmed to be at the May 24 Saturday Night’s Main Event NBC special.
John Cena’s next WWE opponent has potentially been revealed, with the champion laying out another SmackDown star after Backlash.
