John Cena has revealed the early WWE character he would do over and the reason he sees it as less-than-successful.
Having signed with WWE in 2001, Cena has undergone a number of character changes, starting with his The Prototype incarnation in the OVW developmental territory.
His main roster call-up took place in June 2002, with John Cena answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge and declaring himself as possessing “ruthless aggression”.
While the phrase kick-started an era in WWE, it didn’t do the same for Cena’s career, with the star commenting on its lack of success at the Philadelphia Fan Expo.
Speaking about his “Ruthless Aggression” incarnation, Cena stated he did nothing with it, saying:
“The time period I wish I had a do-over for was the Ruthless Aggression character. I did nothing with it.”
Currently in his retirement year, Cena’s WWE journey could have ended far earlier had it not been for Stephanie McMahon seeing him rap.
This would lead to the Doctor of Thuganomics incarnation for John Cena, avoiding being released by WWE and going on to become a record-breaking World Champion.
During the Fan Expo, Cena would also reveal that WWE merchandise that he had stopped the company from re-releasing.
