John Cena Addresses Final WWE Show Plans WWE

John Cena has revealed how his last WWE appearance transformed from a ‘tribute show’ to a showcase of main roster and NXT stars.

While the focus of the December 13 episode of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will be John Cena’s final match, details of plans for ‘exhibition matches’ featuring main roster and NXT stars recently emerged.

While the competitors set to wrestle in these interbrand matches have yet to be revealed, Cena has spoken about why he wanted his final appearance to have a focus beyond just him.

Speaking Raw Recap, Cena revealed how his conversation with Triple H saw the idea for Saturday Night’s Main Event develop, saying:

“I really want to take my hat off to Triple H. I called him up and said ‘I’ve got an idea. We’ve got to do two hours for the tribute show and if you do a whole John Cena tribute, two things are going to happen, you’re either going to do too much or too little, you’re never going to please everybody.

“I would like to propose that we have big-name WWE superstars fighting exhibition matches versus the brightest in NXT.’ That way we have a sold-out building, hopefully the world is watching at Saturday Night’s Main Event, I get to wrestle one final time, but in doing that, everyone also gets to look at what to look forward to.

“I think that’s the most important thing, yes, it’s my last match, but collectively we’re all kind of closing a chapter of an era of sports entertainment, and I want people to look forward to what’s next.”
