John Morrison Explains How AEW Debut Came Together AEW

Former WWE star John Morrison has explained how his AEW debut came together.

On the May 18 edition of AEW Dynamite, John Morrison under the name of Johnny Elite made his debut for the company in a loss to Samoa Joe in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinals.

Speaking with NBC Sports Boston, the former WWE star shared the details on his appearance with All Elite Wrestling first came together.

He said:

“I think it came about because I … texted or called Tony [Khan] one night. [I] just talked to him briefly and then set up a call where we talked again. Then, randomly, a few days before [the match], I think he asked me to be the Joker in the tournament and wrestle Joe. I said yes, of course.”

Morrison continued on to praise his opponent in the tournament, Samoa Joe, saying:

“I love Samoa Joe, I’m a fan of his. I remember watching him before he even started, [I’m a] fan of him as a person.”

When asked about the possibility for further appearances, the newly christened Johnny Elite answered:

“As far as what’s happening right now, I feel like AEW has got so much happening that it’s tough to introduce a new storyline. Timing is almost everything in this business, and maybe the time in AEW isn’t right now. It could be … next week, it could be in six months.”

As previously mentioned, Samoa Joe seems to be set for his return to All Elite Wrestling, which you can read more about here.
