Johnny Gargano Comments On Austin Theory’s Partnership With Vince McMahon

Austin Theory was called up to the WWE main roster as part of the 2021 WWE Draft, where he was picked up by Raw. Since then, Theory has ended up as sort of a protege for WWE chairman Vince McMahon on the show after stealing his golden egg.

In NXT, Theory, along with Indi Hartwell, was the protege for Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae in ‘The Way’. Gargano recently spoke to ComicBook.com, where he spoke about his former protege’s pairing with the boss.

He said:

“It feels like Austin just kind of went from me being his father figure to Vince McMahon now being his father figure, but yeah, it’s wild, man. I’m so happy for him because he does work really, really hard.”

Gargano continued on, putting over both of his NXT ‘children’, saying that he believes that WWE has a ‘gold mine’ with the two.

He said:

“It was always my mission this past year to put them in a position where they could be Superstars. And they’re so young and they’re so talented, the both of them, and I feel like WWE has such a gold mine in Austin and Indi that I hope they take advantage of it because I feel like they can make that company a lot of money for many, many years. But yeah, it’s so cool to see. I left a comment on one of (Theory’s) Instagram posts and told him to go become WWE Champion because he’s got all the tools to do it. So it’s just very cool to see him get that opportunity.”

Johnny Gargano left NXT due to contract expiry last month. He has since posted a tweet implying that he is getting ‘the itch’ to return to the ring.

Theory is one of the names confirmed to make his Royal Rumble debut in this year’s men’s Rumble match. You can find the full list of confirmed participants so far here.
