Johnny Gargano Says NXT Discussed Using David Arquette For Ghostface Role

Johnny Gargano has said that at one point, there was a pitch for David Arquette to be revealed as ‘Ghostface’ on NXT.

At Halloween Havoc 2020, Gargano defeated Damian Priest for the North American Championship, thanks in part to a mysterious assailant dressed in a Scream mask.

The attacker was later revealed to be Austin Theory, ahead of the formation of The Way faction.  During a recent Twitch livestream, Gargano revealed that the story almost went in a completely different direction, noting:

“I kind of just made an offhanded joke, Oh, hopefully, it’s a Scream mask guy and then that ended up being the Scream mask. At one point, there was thought there were talks of having it be revealed as David Arquette, that obviously didn’t happen. But it was discussed at one point.”

Theory is currently on the Raw roster, involved in a storyline with Vince McMahon. Gargano is a free-agent, after letting his WWE contract expire. His last appearance for the company took place on the December 7 edition of NXT 2.0.
Gargano has since opened up about his wrestling future, following his WWE departure.
