AEW Star Says Jon Moxley Was “Going Through The Motions” In WWE WWE

Following his run as part of The Shield, Jon Moxley was “going through the motions” in WWE according to a fellow AEW star.

The Shield was the dominant trio of Moxley, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns and were amongst the most popular figures during their time together.

Since those days, Rollins and Reigns have carved a distinct path of their own, but Moxley lost his passion for doing the thing he loves.

Renee Paquette spoke to Busted Open Radio(subscription required) explaining:

“I could see Jon just kind of going through the motions.

“But I did not know Jon prior to WWE.

“So I didn’t know necessarily all of those other things that he really wanted to do.”

Paquette joined WWE in 2012 and would continue with the company until 2020.

Moxley made his main roster debut in November 2012, forming The Shield.

They would start a relationship in 2013 and get married in 2017, welcoming their first child in June 2021.

Whilst Moxley would go on to hold a number of championships in WWE, including being the WWE Champion and three-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, something was clearly missing.

He would eventually part ways with WWE in April 2019 and has since been critical of Vince McMahon’s control over his former employer.

Moxley would join AEW in May 2019, of which Paquette said:

“To see him get excited about professional wrestling again… it was really cool to see that different version of him.

“It was a really small little window from when he left WWE to getting back down to business.

“It was like seeing this fire ignited in his belly again.

“His brain is just always working.”

Since joining AEW, Moxley has been a three-time AEW World Champion.

Moxley has recently been a member of Blackpool Combat Club in AEW and lost the AEW Championship to MJF at AEW Full Gear.
