Jon Moxley To Team With Surprising Name On Upcoming Show AEW

After recently being challenged by NJPW star El Desperado for a rematch from their ‘no disqualification’ bout at NJPW Music City Mayhem event last July, AEW’s Jon Moxley has now responded with an unexpected counter-challenge.

As posted by NJPW on Twitter, Moxley has accepted Desperado’s challenge, but not to a one-on-one contest.

Instead Moxley has thrown out a challenge that will see himself and well-traveled veteran Homicide team up against Desperado and a partner of his choosing at the upcoming NJPW STRONG two-day event Independence Day on July 4 and 5.

While not a guarantee as to who Desperado will choose, the 39-year-old is a member of the Strong Style faction alongside Minoru Suzuki and Ren Narita, two men Moxley has dealt with in the past.

Moxley’s brutal first encounter with Desperado was won by the Blackpool Combat Club member via referee stoppage.

Elsewhere on the card Moxley’s friend and fellow AEW star Eddie Kingston will take on NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion KENTA, while Catch 2/2 (Francesco Akira and TJP) will defend their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Clark Conners and Dan Moloney.

Moxley has been especially active in NJPW recently, competing at June 4’s Dominion PPV alongside fellow BCC member Claudio Castagnoli and Shota Umino in a losing effort against reigning NEVER Openweight Trio’s Champions CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomohiro Ishii).
