Jon Moxley Says Wheeler Yuta Joining Blackpool Combat Club Was An ‘Accident’ AEW

Jon Moxley has explained how Wheeler Yuta joining the Blackpool Combat Club was an ‘accident’.

The formation of the Blackpool Combat Club faction was first pitched to Moxley by Bryan Danielson onscreen following Moxley’s victory over Wheeler Yuta on the February 2 edition of Dynamite.

William Regal united the duo at Revolution, before Yuta earned his spot in the group in a hard-fought rematch against Moxley on the April 8 edition of Rampage.

Speaking on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, Moxley pointed out that he was originally meant to face Brian Kendrick on February 2, not Yuta.

Explaining how Yuta stepping in on that show led to him eventually joining the faction, Moxley said:

“The thing with Wheeler was an accident. I was supposed to wrestle Brian Kendrick, hour before the show, that match is not happening .

“The show starts in an hour and Tony (Khan) was like, ‘Wheeler!’, so we go and have a little match. That was either before or after Bryan did the promo, and he’s one of the guys, I think Bryan mentioned him by name, and then it just like, very naturally happened and before you know it, he’s in the group.”

Claudio Castagnoli (fka Cesaro) is the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club, making his AEW debut at Forbidden Door. At the same event, Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the interim AEW World Champion.

On Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite, the Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz will battle the Jericho Appreciation Society in the promotion’s second ever Blood & Guts match.
