Josh Alexander Reveals Why He Signed With AEW Over WWE AEW/WWE/TNA

Former TNA Wrestling World Champion Josh Alexander has revealed why he opted to sign with AEW and not WWE when he entered free agency earlier this year.

On January 24 Josh Alexander wrestled his last match for TNA Wrestling, bringing an end to a highly successful six year run in the promotion where he captured every major title available to him multiple times over, including having the longest single reign as TNA World Champion of all time.

During that six year spell, AEW emerged as the second biggest wrestling promotion in the United States, and when it came time for Alexander’s TNA contract to expire he was linked with both AEW and WWE.

The Canadian star opted to sign with AEW, debuting with the company on the April 16 episode of Dynamite as a member of the Don Callis Family faction.

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Alexander explained his decision to join AEW, citing the available talent pool and his impression of Tony Khan as driving factors behind the decision:

“If you believe what you read online, I just went with the highest bidder, the truth is that the money, schedule, and things like that didn’t play into my decision as much as looking at the pool of talent I wanted to work with.”

“There’s a specific reason I signed where I did. I chose AEW because I want to be here.”

“I didn’t grow up dreaming of wrestling at WrestleMania, I’ve worked with so many people in AEW that are now in high-profile positions, and I met Tony [Khan] during the Covid days. I vibed with him, and I think he’s a really good human being. He’s someone that actually cares about his talent and treats them like human beings.

“I have watched AEW religiously since its inception. A lot of it is that my dream matches are in AEW. I’ve been chasing Kenny Omega for 10 years. If I’m going to wrestle him, it’s going to be in AEW.”

Alexander is currently on a three match winning streak on AEW TV and will face off with AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page on tomorrow night’s episode of Dynamite.

His Don Callis Family stablemate Kyle Fletcher issued a challenge to Page for a AEW World Championship match at All Out on the September 6 episode of Collision, however, that match has yet to be made official.
