Former NXT Women’s Champion KAIRI (fka Kairi Sane) has been announced for the STARDOM x NJPW IWGP Women’s Championship tournament.
The inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion will be determined in a tournament, with the finals set to take place during the NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over joint event on November 20.
STARDOM has now confirmed that KAIRI has received a first round bye in the ‘international bracket’ of the tournament.
On October 23, the former WWE star will face the winner of the ‘Alpha Female’ Jazzy Gabbert vs. Ava White first round match in the semifinals of the tournament. Gabbert and White will face off during the October 2 NJPW Royal Quest II event.
Explaining why the Japanese star is wrestling in the international bracket, STARDOM tweeted:
KAIRI-> International Superstar-> International Bracket
#Stardom
KAIRI returned to STARDOM in March, after her WWE contract expired. She last wrestled for WWE in July 2020, before transitioning into an ambassador role and moving back to Japan.
Seven stars in total will compete in the IWGP Women’s Championship tournament. The new title will be defended at NJPW events both in Japan and in the USA.
