WWE has announced Kairi Sane for this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, but in a slightly different role than what we’d become used to.
It’s been confirmed that Sane will be part of the Japanese commentary team for the show.
In late July, Sane left the WWE active roster to return to Japan, but she has remained with the company in an ‘ambassador’ capacity, which will likely involve roles like commentary and doing other promotional things in Japan.
The COVID-19 pandemic has all kinds of things on hold right now, but Sane could play a big part in some kind of expansion into that market, particularly NXT branching into Japan as has been planned for some time now.
Sane signed with WWE as part of NXT in 2017 and won the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament that same year. She went on to become NXT Women’s Champion, as well as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with Asuka.
Her involvement on Sunday should be a sign that despite being out of the ring – at least for the time being – Sane will still be very much involved in the WWE umbrella.
