Kazuchika Okada Breaks Impressive Star Ratings Record

NJPW star Kazuchika Okada has broken the record for having the most matches to be rated four stars by Dave Meltzer.

The match that broke the record for him was his bout with Sanada last week.

Kazuchika Okada now has 143 matches rated four stars, surpassing Kenta Kobashi.

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, here’s what Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez had to say:

Alvarez: “So it looks like Okada is now the most four-starring-est wrestler of all time.”

Meltzer: “Yep, after the Sanada match last week. He passed Kenta Kobashi with his 143rd four-star match. All-time the most.”

Alvarez: “The other thing to consider with that is that he is young (33), and provided he doesn’t suffer some sort of serious injury, he’s got like another decade to just run away with this.”

Meltzer: “Yeah, but the guy who’s gonna end up, unless he has a serious injury, running away with it, is Will Ospreay. Because Will Ospreay is in eighth place with 115. And he is 28 years old. Nick Jackson is actually tied at 115, Nick Jackson is I think 30 (he’s 32). So those are the ones who have a chance, although Okada is 33, so yeah those would be the ones.

“And there’s nobody else, all the other people who are in, as far as the top 20, other than Young Bucks and Will Ospreay, are not people who’ll probably end up beating Okada because they’re much older. But yeah, Ospreay’s number is amazing, and barring injuries – of course Ospreay’s got a bad back, bad neck – once he gets back in Japan, he’ll be racking up those numbers probably.”
