Legendary Japanese wrestling star Keiji Mutoh (The Great Muta) has officially announced the planned date for his impending retirement.
Mutoh made the announcement at today’s CyberFight Festival 2022, where he revealed that he has five matches left in his career and plans on retiring next Spring.
Mutoh was sidelined with a hip injury since January 2022, before making his return last month. Mutoh revealed that the doctor told him that if his hip becomes deformed, he will require a hip replacement, and that there is no way he can wrestle with that. Mutoh stated that it was the doctor’s decision to have him retire, and not a personal choice he made.
Mutoh has wrestled all over the world since the 1980s, including capturing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship four times, and capturing the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship.
