Kenny Omega Admits Recent Backstage Return Was ‘Too Much, Too Soon’ AEW

AEW star Kenny Omega has commented on his recent backstage return, and the procedures that he has underwent during his hiatus.

Omega last wrestled at Full Gear in November 2021, before stepping away from AEW to deal with a number of different issues.

It was reported in May that Omega had been backstage for several AEW tapings, working behind the scene, producing matches for the women’s division.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Omega noted that he’s currently focused on recovery. Discussing the return, Omega said:

“It was a little too much, too soon for me because I was missing so much of my rehab. It was cool to be backstage two or three times, but I really need this time at home.”

Omega noted that he has underwent 5 major procedures since stepping away from the ring. Opening up about his injuries, Omega said:

“So far, five procedures have taken place to attempt to make me a better, healthier athlete. These are injuries that have compiled over years. They’re ones I can’t neglect, and I’ve needed this time to start to heal. That’s what I’ve been doing during this time off—I’m trying to buy time back onto my wrestling clock.

“I would like to have a longer career, so I’ve looked at this time after losing the belt as an opportunity to start to fix what’s hurting me.”

Omega recently opened up about wrestling with vertigo during his NJPW run, which you can read more about right here.

While a number of AEW stars have recently announced injures, there are reportedly others currently dealing with issues that haven’t been publicly disclosed.
