With Kenny Omega starting his ‘Belt Collector’ gimmick, and Kota Ibushi picking up both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles this month, some have speculated that the former tag team partners are set for a showdown this year.
If that match does happen, it won’t be for NJPW, as Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “The Cleaner” is not slated to return to the Japanese promotion anytime soon:
There was a lot of talk after since Omega came out wearing a Bullet Club shirt, and given New Japan owns that trademark, his wearing would be a sign he’s going back to New Japan. Actually there’s no such thing. There was no message to it at all. Anderson & Gallows had a shirt and thought it would get people talking if he wore it, so he did.
Kenny Omega wore a Bullet Club shirt at IMPACT Hard To Kill over the weekend, snd some believed this to be a tease that the AEW World Championship was planning to return to NJPW, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
