In case you had forgotten, Kenny Omega is the current AAA Mega Champion. While the status of that title has been up in the air since he won it, AAA announced today that he will defend the title at TripleMania XXVIII.
This was announced during a press conference in Mexico. There is currently no date set for the event as AAA needs a government sign off to go ahead. That being said, when the event occurs Omega will defend the title against Laredo Kid.

Omega has not defended the title since March when he defeated Sammy Guevara on AEW Dynamite. The relationship between AEW and AAA has been much less pronounced since Dynamite began and obviously even less so since the start of the pandemic. Since Omega’s title defence over Guevara, there has barely been a mention of the Mexican promotion in AEW.
Prior to that, Omega also defended the title against Jack Evans on AEW Dark in 2019. His last match in AAA was against Dragon Lee at TripleMania Regia on December 1, 2019.
This match will be the first time Omega will face Laredo Kid in a singles match. They clashed twice last year in six-man tag team matches with Omega teaming with the Young Bucks and Laredo Kid teaming with the Lucha Bros. The Elite picked up the win in the first match at Fyter Fest while the Lucha Bros and Laredo Kid evened the score at TripleMania XXVII
