Following his victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi at NJPW STRONG Resurgence (May 21), Will Ospreay is just one win away from setting up a dream rematch with IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.
While he will first have to get past AEW’s Lance Archer at NJPW Dominion, the long-awaited clash between Omega and Ospreay has long been rumored to be taking place at Forbidden Door 2 on June 25.
While this is uncertain due to Omega’s current rivalry with the Blackpool Combat Club, for Ospreay a rematch would afford him the opportunity for some payback, not only for the loss of his title at Wrestle Kingdom 17 but also for a permanent scar Omega caused to Ospreay’s body.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on his ‘Insight’ podcast, Ospreay discussed a table spot that saw Omega stomp a hole through a table that was on top of Ospreay, causing him irreparable damage during the match, saying:
“I’ve still got that — I’ve still got that down there. People thought that he had missed, man he didn’t, he f**king got it.
“All the table like splintered up and like scratched my back. I got a scar there forever now.
“I’ve got a scar here (points at his forehead) where he just was putting my f**king head through the table. F**k that hurt.”
Despite Ospreay’s United Empire teammates Aussie Open recently signing with AEW, it looks unlikely that the 30-year-old will follow suit anytime soon.
Although Ospreay has appeared for AEW numerous times he seemingly ruled out a full-time move to WWE or AEW for one specific reason – click this link to find out more.
