The Royal Rumble is probably the most beloved wrestling match, but Kevin Owens has revealed what he’d change about the match type.
Speaking with Fightful, the former Universal Champion explained that he’d like to see WWE revert back to the 40-man Rumble that they used in 2011:
“They had done the 40-man Rumble one year, which I really liked. I wish we’d go back to that. The more people involved, the better. The longer it is, the better. If I were to pick any changes to make, I would add more people.”
As previously mentioned, the 40-man Rumble was used in 2011, which was won by Alberto Del Rio. WWE reverted back to the original 30-man Rumble the following year, and has stuck with that format ever since.
WWE did put on a 50-man Rumble in Saudi Arabia in 2018, named ‘The Greatest Royal Rumble’, but that stayed as a one-off special attraction as opposed to a yearly match type.
Kevin Owens will not be in the Royal Rumble match this year. He is currently slated to challenge Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing match for the Universal Championship on the show.
