Kofi Kingston Didn’t Want King Of The Ring Win Because Of Racist Acronym

With the likes of Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar winning the tournament before, becoming King of the Ring can be a great way for a young Superstar to launch their career to new heights.

However, Kofi Kingston has revealed that despite this, he is actually relieved to have not been chosen to win the tournament a few years ago.

Speaking on The New Day: Feel The Power podcast, the former WWE Champion revealed that despite coming close to winning the tournament a few years ago, he is relieved that he didn’t because of a potential name change

“I was in danger of becoming the King Of The Ring at one point which would have been King Kofi Kingston which again would not have been a good thing because of the acronym, take it from there, you know?”

Obviously Kofi is referring to the fact that if he became King of the ring, his name might have been changed to King Kofi Kingston, leaving him with the unfortunate initials of KKK.

Obviously WWE could have sorted this by having Kofi drop his first name and become King Kingston, or just be referred to as King Kofi. However, they decided to go with someone else as the winner.

The conversation came about after Xavier Woods joked about Kofi being only one of a few WWE stars to not receive a name change while working for Vince McMahon.
