TNA Wrestling/AEW
Konnan has commented on his current relationship with TNA World Champion Mike Santana, and Santana’s issues with AEW star Ortiz.
A big story a few years ago was the split of the tag team of Santana and Ortiz in AEW, which was reportedly due to real-life issues between the two.
After a very brief feud playing into their legitimate problems, Santana left AEW and joined TNA, where he’s just won the World Championship from WWE NXT star Trick Williams at Bound For Glory.
Accompanying Santana for his entrance at Bound For Glory was Konnan, a long-time mentor of both Santana and Ortiz, who has spoken about their issues in the past.
On the latest edition of his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan was asked about his reunion with Santana and the status of the relationship between Santana and Ortiz.
He said:
“There was no estrangement. Santana knows how I am, I’m very opinionated, anybody that knows me knows I am. I just told him, ‘I thought what happened with you and Ortiz was f**ked up, and I thought you were the reason,’ and he accepted it, no lies told.
“But I think Santana’s made up his mind, he wants to go solo and be a star by himself, and he’s not gonna team up with Ortiz. He might do a one night only thing, but I can’t see them going back together because he’s probably gonna be the face of the company now.
“That (a storyline and feud between Santana and Ortiz in TNA) would not be a bad idea.”

Ortiz remains signed to AEW and returned to wrestling on the indies after recovering from surgery earlier this year, but hasn’t wrestled in AEW since January 2024.
