Kurt Angle Calls Former WWE Champion Underrated

WWE Hall of Famer and former World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle has opened about his time in WWE, calling a fellow former WWE Champion underrated.

Nicknamed The Wrestling Machine, Kurt Angle was known for being one of the best technical wrestlers in WWE. Drawing on his Olympic wrestling background, Angle had one of the most impressive rookie years in wrestling history.

Angle has recently talked about his experiences wrestling Stone Cold Steve Austin. Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, Angle noted that the former WWE Superstar was extremely underrated in the ring in his opinion.

Praising Austin’s adaptability, Angle called The Rattlesnake the best in-ring worker he’s ever wrestled.

Here is the full quote:

“Stone Cold Steve Austin, he could adjust to anything. That guy was the best in-ring worker I ever worked with. He’s very underrated in the ring.”

While he was always popular, most fans remember Stone Cold Steve Austi for his iconic character rather than his in-ring work or matches.

Angle also spoke fondly about the late Owen Hart. Discussing working with the legendary worker, Angle talked about Hart’s ability to read the crowd. Praising Hart’s spontaneity in their Shotgun Saturday Night match, Angle said:

“The match was incredible, Owen carried me through the whole thing. He came up with some great ideas and the crazy thing was he would audible during the match. He would switch moves around and he would let me know ahead of time what we were doing. He was the first person I went in the ring with that would change the match and adjust just because of a fan reaction.”

Kurt Angle’s first WWE try-out took place in 1998, when both Austin and Hart were established stars. It is interesting that Angle learnt from two icons of the industry before following his own path, becoming The Wrestling Machine.

Angle wrestled his retirement match in 2019, losing to Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35.
