Kurt Angle Says Plans For WWE TV Return Have Been Scrapped

Kurt Angle has provided clarification on his WWE status, following previous comments about plans for his return to TV.

Last week, Angle revealed that he had received a call from WWE to return as an on-screen character. On the latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, the Hall of Famer noted that his program has been cancelled.

Angle stated that he is not under contract with WWE, noting that he worked with the company during Royal Rumble weekend, doing interviews and a photo op. Confirming that his only obligation currently is the Kurt Angle Show, Angle said:

“I went to the Royal Rumble. The WWE wanted me to do a short program that they ended up canceling it at the last second. But we went to the Rumble (and) my wife and I, we saw Kim Orton my wife’s best friend. We had a great time.

“We went to the Rumble and I also did some documentary interviews a day before (and) a photo op with the fans. But I want to make it clear, I’m not signed with the WWE. They weren’t gonna sign me anyway. It was gonna be a three week program. It got canceled, but you know my obligation is to the show — the Kurt Angle show and that’s it.”

Shelton Benjamin had shared photos with Angle backstage at WWE Royal Rumble, which led some fans to speculate that Angle was returning to WWE full-time. The Olympic gold medallist had also teased that he’d be in the men’s Rumble match, trolling fans with a video on social media.
